November Pack Meeting 11/19 6:45PM

Hello Scouts-

The November Pack Meeting is on Thursday, November 19th at 6:45 in the Gym, and is the Pack service project. This year, we will have a food and coat drive.

Here is a list from the mid-ohio foodbank of most needed items: http://www.midohiofoodbank.org/pdfs/MOFB-Grocery-list.pdf

We will also collect gently used coats, mittens, gloves, blankets, etc. for donation to local charity.

Optional idea to potentially multiply your impact:

Attached to the email sent on 11/4 is a flyer announcing the Pack 11 "No Knock" food drive - if you like it, you and your scout could stuff in mailboxes around your neighborhood - basically it sets out a time when people can leave a food or coat donation on the doorstep and you pick it up without bugging them. It should take minimal time to distribute, then a quick trip around on the appointed day to see if it worked. If you like the idea for your neighborhood, feel free to reproduce it and use it at will (don't forget to modify it with your own specifics). In our neighborhood, we may also distribute a reminder note the day before the pickup if we have time.

From a scouting standpoint, not only a worthwhile activity, but it probably fits some requirements for any cub level, especially if they put in the time to distribute flyers.

The December Pack Meeting (Thursday Dec 17th) is tentatively planned as a summer beach party - bathing suits, sunglasses, beach balls, and maybe a summer camp presentation.

Other upcoming events:

Tiger Day - Sat Nov 7th - Fun filled activity morning for Tigers and their parents.

Beltloop Bonanza - Sat Dec 5th - This is an excellent event where your scout can earn 3 beltloops in a morning.

September Pack Meetings

Hello Scouts-

The countdown to the start of the 2009-2010 Scouting year is getting short.....we are looking forward to a great year with your young scouts and you.

A few brief announcements-

**First, we have decided to limit the first meeting, Thursday September 10th, 6:45 to just NEW SCOUTS and WEBELOS. Existing Wolves and Bears need not attend; we have nothing planned. The new scouts (all levels) will require a lot of attention to get up to speed, and the Webelos (and their parents) have a special 'Webelos to Scouts' transition program planned with a district transition coordinator. So, Webelos parents, please plan to stay for that meeting - I think you'll get a lot out of it.

-------------------

The second meeting. just a week later, (Thursday 9/17, 6:45) will be for all scouts, as we have our annual ICE CREAM SOCIAL and POPCORN KICKOFF. We will also distribute the Pack Meeting schedule for the year and break into Dens to establish the Den schedules.

-------------------

Please recommend scouts to any of your son's friends - they are welcome to try a meeting or two before committing.

-------------------

Finally, we are always in need of parent volunteers to make the pack run. If you value scouting in your boy's life, please don't hesitate to jump in when the call goes out - I think you'll find that it's actually fun - we have a good core group and have a pretty good time behind the scenes.

Earth Day Special Service Project

Our Pack has been invited to participate in a special Earth Day project at Wickliffe School to help beautify the school grounds.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25th and is a combined effort between Wickliffe and Upper Arlington Progressive Action. Our point of contact is one of our Pack 11 moms, Kris Rojas (see your email for Kris' contact info) Participation is optional and could be either at the Den level (possibly to fulfill some den advancement requirements) or at the individual level.

Please contact Kris Rojas for more information if you or your den would like to participate in this important event! Please note that we have opted to not participate as a Pack in the annual UA Swamp Romp stream cleanup this spring, so the Earth Day event would make a nice outdoor spring project for a group of Cubs.

CAKE-A-PALOOZA! March 31st 6:45PM

Call it a "Sweet-Stakes".....call it "like the Pinewood Derby, but with frosting"...call it "CAKE-A-PALOOZA!"

That's right! Cake-a-Palooza is coming to Pack 11 on Tuesday, March 31st at 6:45 p.m. in the Wickliffe gym.

What's Cake-a-Palooza? Cake-a-Palooza is the new, updated version of the old Pack 11 Cake Auction. Here's how it works!

1) Have fun with your Cub Scout creating a cake. Key words: CUB SCOUT, FUN and CREATIVITY. The sky's the limit! We've had cakes in all shapes and sizes, colors, flavors, themes, motifs, etc. Give your cake a name. Take a picture when it's done. Have fun! If you don't bake, we still want you to participate...buying a cake is okay. One way or another, bring a cake with you to Cake-a-Palooza (IMPORTANT: bring one cake for every Cub Scout you bring to the meeting.)

2) Fill out an entry form for your cake(s) and your Cub Scout(s) when you arrive. Tell us about your cake. Does it have a name? What flavor? Don't forget to enter your Cub Scout in the drawing!

3) Listen to our presentation about Friends of Scouting and some of the awesome BSA camps in Central Ohio. PARENTS: We will be collecting donations at this event to benefit Friends of Scouting, a fund which supports local Boy Scout camps and facilities. This is not an auction as in years past. Please bring a checkbook if you plan to donate as change may be limited.

PLEASE NOTE: Donations are encouraged and appreciated, but optional. A donation is NOT required for your son to participate in Cake-a-Palooza, just bring a cake! Want to donate but short on cash? Scout Account funds can be donated to Friends of Scouting (see Dave O'Neil our treasurer)...could be a great way for boys to learn about the importance of charity and "giving back."

4) After the FOS presentation, we will draw one lucky winner for each cake. Every boy who brings a cake leaves with a cake. It's that simple!

So get bakin', Pack 11...see you all at Cake-a-Palooza!

Upcoming Events - Through August 2009

[From Cubmaster Drew Wade]

Dear Pack 11 Cubs and Parents:

Happy New Year to all in our Pack 11 family! Here are a few updates of what's coming up:

1) Schedule for the remainder of the year:

To assist with your planning, all of the pack-level events for the remainder of the scouting year as well as summer 2009 are now on the Google Calendar (on the right side of the screen). As you will see, we have lots of fun activities to look forward to in Pack 11!

2) Pinewood Derby:

Our next pack event is the ever-popular Pinewood Derby which will be held on Friday, January 30th in the Wickliffe gym. Car weigh-in and race times will be announced shortly. Everyone should by now have a Pinewood Derby car kit provided by the pack. If not, please send me a "reply" and we'll make sure your son receives a kit. I'm also attaching a copy of the official rules for the Pinewood as a guide in building your cars.

Pinewood Derby rules.doc

3) Pack Trip to CoCo Key:

On February 8th, we will have a super-cool pack trip to CoCo Key water resort in Newark, Ohio. Many thanks to Caryn Kanel for setting up this event! Caryn has put together an excellent reservation form for CoCo Key which will help us with planning, reservations, and costs. Please print out and return this attached form along with any required payment to pack treasurer Dave O'Neil no later than February 4th. We will also be collecting these forms and payments at the Pinewood Derby. NOTE: please use the cost schedule on the attached form as your guide for calculating costs, not the CoCo Key website's costs....why? Caryn has negotiated a discounted scouting rate AND we are partially supplementing costs from our pack treasury to make things more affordable (your popcorn sale dollars at work!)

Please make a note of all the upcoming events. We hope to see you all at the Pinewood Derby and CoCo Key!
